Coromandel Peninsula & Blues Game

Just wanted to say Happy Mothers Day to my beautiful, strong, hard working, inspirational mom!! Love you and I am missing you dearly! Can't wait to see you!

This past weekend was so wonderful, relaxing and so much fun! After a long week of teaching Brittany, Allison and I decided we wanted to go to the Coromandel Peninsula.

We haven’t been there and we wanted a nice girls evening outside of Auckland so we decided to go and stay at my host parents batch (beach house) in Whangamata.

the batch

We met downtown after school and headed to ace rental to pick up our rental car. After a misunderstanding we actually had to go to the airport to pick up the car. Finally after a few hours we were off, driving 2 hours to Whangamata. We left around 6 so the sun was already setting – driving to a foreign place in pitch dark AND pouring rain was not the best situation but we did it and got there safely.

driving saturday - beautiful weather!

We watched a nice girly movie and drank some wine then headed to bed.

Saturday morning we woke up and had a wonderful breakfast at the Lazy Lizard (my host dad insisted we go there) and then got in the car and drove an hour to Hot Water Beach!

We were planning on just going to the beach but once I saw a sign for Cathedral cove I knew we would be making a pit stop! We stopped there and had a nice 45-minute walk down to the cove. This place is so beautiful. It caught me off guard how beautiful the landscape was! Scenes from Narnia were filmed in the cove, which is cool fact (I have never seen Narnia).

Next we headed to Hot Water Beach –

Two hours either side of low tide visitors flock to the usually deserted Hot Water Beach to find hot water bubbling through the sand. The water can get up to more than 100 degrees! So we arrived there along with about 100 other visitors and stated digging holes and seeing if the water was warm! It was a really weird thing to do but I have been told it is a must! Brittany said it perfectly “its like sitting in a very sandy hot tub that you have dug yourself.” It was an interesting experience being there, digging holes with a spade , and sitting in hot sandy water.

We then headed back to Auckland, dropped off Allison, picked up Jordan and headed to the Blues game! We met two of our friends there and had a blast watching the game! Blues won!

Now I am teaching all this week and not sure what the weekend holds! I know I will share it with all of you though!
